In February of this year, Maura Nguyen Donohue and Le Vu Long joined up in New York City with their respective troupes to put on a contemporary dance piece. Initially conceived of through long-distance communications and elaborated on in person when they finally met up in NYC, the two collaborators were featured at the Dance Theater Workshop in Chelsea. The show was titled Enemy Territory with scenes ranging from serene compositions to apocolyptic movements. In the several days following, we hung out with Le Vu Long and his dancers in more informal settings. We invited them to our place, they invited us back to theirs. Many hours were spent with Long and Lan, drinking and eating and talking about their efforts to promote contemporary dance in Vietnam.
